Happy Valentines to all my fellow bloggers, all my friends where ever you are located now. Today as we celebrate the holiday of hearts, love and romance, let us not forget our loved ones who are not with us. I thought I would share a love story written by my sister in 2008.
Sunny and vibrant San Jose is the city he calls home, while she lives on the other side of the continent in the old and damp Mississauga. They met while she was on vacation visiting friends. On their first date, they watched a movie, had lunch and played some arcade games. They got along very well that they had spent the whole day together. He asked her to go on another date. The day was filled with fun and laughter as they really got to know each other. When it was time for her to go back, she told him that a long distance relationship is what he needs to spice up his boring life. His reply was “I am not available”. But she was determined to make him available. They exchange telephone numbers, email addresses and told each other to keep in touch. He is easy going, thoughtful, caring, fun and down to earth. His one flaw...forgetfulness. He is not demanding, controlling or the jealous type. She loves these qualities about him. She does not complain, whine or throw hissy fits and he loves her for it. The long distance relationship started and the communicating came to them naturally. After hundreds of handwritten letters, thousands of emails and millions of phone calls for five years, they had maintained a relationship that really worked for them. They would sometimes meet in cities halfway between where they live and enjoy their time together. While travelling back and forth seemed fine at first, he realized that he needed her closer. On New Year’s eve he proposed to her and she happily accepted. Jeff and Luckie were married in Las Vegas. They will now travel a road that is different this time because it will be paved with love and happiness. As they grow old together, a day will come when they will reminisce about all the places they have visited and will know that distance they traveled was worth every mile.
For those who are single and are still waiting for the right one to come along, just remember the saying that the special one will be there when you least expect it. For those who have that special someone already, remember that the grass is not greener on the other side. Love the one you are with. Be kind, be patient, be a good listener and never go to sleep angry.
A couple friends of mine are celebrating their birthdays today - Sue of Georgetown, Ontario and Marty of Ottawa, Ontario. May you have many more wonderful birthdays to come. I guess if your birthday happens to fall on Valentines Day - you're guaranteed to have two gifts.
