Movie Monday - Christopher Robin

When I found out that there's going to be a new Winnie the Pooh movie, I got very excited.  And then got a little sad because I did not know anyone who would go because Jeff won't.  Then Jeff said, maybe I could ask our neighbor who has an 8 year old girl if I can take her, in case they are not going to be taking her.  So I immediately sent a text to our neighbor and I was so happy with the reply.  The grandmother of their daughter was planning on taking her and if I was interested in joining them, that I was very welcome to be part of this date. Friday, August the 3 was the date it will be in theater in our area.  I patiently waited but did not get any message.  When I went to the little girl's birthday last Saturday, I met the grandmother and she mentioned that she is planning the movie date soon and wondered if I knew if it was already in the nearby theater.  So the following Monday, I finally got the message that I will be going with them and they will also give me a ride to the movie.  What was weird was that I had a nap prior to the time of departure.  My stomach started having butterflies and I really didn't know what to do whether to back out or go with them.  After an hour, I felt better and decided to go since I was so excited about seeing this movie.  If you are a fan of these group from the hundred acre wood, then you will definitely enjoy the movie.  I am not sure if the little girl enjoyed it but all the adults with her did.  We even talked about it after and everyone cried a little on certain parts of the movie.  I know that I will watch it again when it becomes available on demand.

Foreign Friday - The Crown

While my son in law was visiting last May, he recommended that we try and watch the CROWN.  Although they just completed season 2 and are filming season 3, we thought we would give it a try.  We started watch Season 1 Episode 1 and we immediately said, we would continue watching.  Little did we know, we binge watch the next four episodes and it was getting late.  The next day we watch a few more and the next day we started watching after lunch.  It is very well done and it was very informative and entertaining.  Of course like any type of documentary, history, etc. there will be also some sort of issue that you don't agree or dislike and so on.  The biggest one is about marriage and the act that went in place.  What was weird is that they have all these rules for certain royalty and now a days it seems like they are a bit more easier on their position on marriages and divorces.  They talk about marriage being a concern for both the church and the government.  But would you say that it's a bit of turning the other cheek??  The church was so concern about single women marrying divorcees but do not have issues on priests committing unacceptable behavior towards young altar boys.  And what about royalties having an affair?  Do they just try to cover up everything?  Sorry, I am getting side tracked.  Anyway, we will continue to watch the rest of the episodes and will look forward to Season 3.  Everything seems foreign to me but after watching each episodes, I now have a bit more understanding of royalty and past history.  Maybe most of you have seen it already and just waiting for the next season.  If not, you might want to try a couple of episodes then decide.

Film Friday - A heart warming movie

Can you remember the last time you saw a movie at the Theater?  Do you remember what you saw?  For me, it has been too long, maybe about a year and a half.  I went with my friend Jean and saw Cinderella.  We were in Reno for a few days and it so happen the hotel we were staying had a movie theater on their property.  While our husbands saw another movie that we were not interested.  Wait, maybe our last movie was maybe the Avengers or maybe Thor.  You see, this is what happens when it has been so long.  While my cousin was visiting us this week we decided to see a movie one day while Jeff was at work.  It was good that I remembered that I had a gift card for the movies that one of our neighbors gave to me for my birthday about 18 months ago.  I was happy to use it for all three of us since we were able to qualify with the senior rate, and it only cost an additional $3.50 for the three of us.  The movie we saw - The Queen of Katwe.  It was a Disney production and a bit long but well worth seeing.  According to the credits, it was based on a true story.  So if you are looking for something to do this weekend, this one I recommend as it's truly a heart warming story.

Maleficent Monday - Many movies

What is different about Air Canada's aircraft?  It's the screen behind each seat that allows passengers to watch movies during their whole flight.  I am sure some other airline has that as well, but I can only share my recent experience.  While on our vacation, I flew on AC from SFO to YYZ and then from YYZ to YHZ and return.  During all those flights, I was able to watch the following movies.  This is really something for me since I don't remember how long ago since the last movie.  What I really love about this feature is that you can start a movie as soon as you get on your seat and finish it until you actually have landed.  Of course sometimes there are some quick interruptions due to their announcement which has to be completed in both English and French.  But even with that, I was able to complete most of the movies I have picked.  In no particular order, here's my list.

  • Maleficent
  • The Amazing Spiderman 2
  • The Other Woman
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel
  • Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit
  • 22 Jump Street
  • Uvanga (Canadian short story film)
  • Trading Day (watched it with my daughter at their home)
  • Chef (another movie I watched with my daughter)
This is the most number of movies I've seen in a month.  If I can count on my memory being great, I know that usually I see one every year.  So I am guessing, I am good for a while. How many movies do you watch in a week, month or year?  According to my daughter, I am not very good at picking movies to watch.  Hopefully you all have seen what I have seen.

And here's a short list of movies that I might see while my girlfriends are visiting:

  • If I Stay
  • The Song
  • When the game stands tall

Funny Friday - It's sooooooh funny

If you have not seen a movie lately, then you definitely have to go and enjoy the two movies that I have seen recently.  We don't go often but when we do, we ended up watching two days in a row or three within a month.  I am not going to ruin them for you, just take a break from your busy schedule and take a friend, a spouse or children.  It's really worth it.

Maybe Monday - A Movie and No Grammy

In case you are still contemplating what movie to see this coming week or weekend, you should watch Zero Dark Thirty.  Although I am not a great movie picker, this one is definitely something worth seeing.  This is all I am going to say and I hope you enjoy is as much as we did.  I am not sure when we will see a movie again but if we do, maybe we will either see Lincoln or Les Miserables or something else that just got released.

Last night was the Grammy Awards and I was planning on posting some of my favorite performers but since we ended up recording it, I really have no clue who won and which part was the best.  The rest of the world watched it yesterday while I will be watching it this morning while having my breakfast.  The good part is that I can breeze through the commercials and I'll be able to finish watching it in a couple of hours.

Belated Kung Hei Fat Choi or Gong Hey Fat Choy, which was yesterday and we forgot all about it, we could have had Chinese food.  But my MIL did not forget about it, she had a card for us and brought some special fortune cookies.  We have never tasted this kind and am happy to say they were delicious.

Worst Wednesday - The Muppets

There are so many things in life that I am good at making choices but MOVIE is my worst category.  My daughter is actually my go to girl when it comes to Movies.  She has never given a recommendation that was not right.  Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to ask her so as usual it was a disaster.  Last Friday we took Gamble to see the MUPPETS since he already has seen Arthur Christmas and we have seen Happy Feet 2.  It was so painful for Jeff to watch the first 30 minutes and at the end of the movie, I ask if he wanted to get a refund.  The good part is that Gamble liked it but was disappointed because we did not get any treat.  We had specific instructions from his mom - NO FAST FOOD.  Back to my review of the movie.  I guess I was expecting more of the Muppets without the normal people.  The songs were not very bubbly, in fact the muppets did their old songs.  I should have followed my first clue - I don't like watching any movie with the guy - the lead actor that is also on the TV series How I met your mother.  I was thought the Muppets would have new songs that are more hip, etc.  Just in case you are contemplating on watching this movie - DON'T.  It is not even worth waiting for it to be on DVD.
