First Friday - March to November

Since today is the first Friday of the month of October, it is a perfect day to talk about first's.
Like the first time you flew, the first kiss, the first date, etc.  But today is different because I just want to announce the first book that my friend wrote - March to November.  I told her that I would feature it in my blog and she approved.  I cannot do a review because we just bought it and is now available on my Kindle Fire.  I know Jeff started reading it while he was travelling last week.  As for me, I will be starting tonight.  In the meantime, please feel free to check it out and here's a number of ways to get the book. www.ByddiLee.com

Truthful Thursday - Tiny Book Collection

These are my tiny book collection which I found at the library where I volunteer.  Some of them I bought during our book sale and the others are from our NOOK sale.  So far I have only look at a few page from each of the book.  My latest addition is the GOLF for dummies which I have read from beginning to end.  I have placed all of them in our stair shelves as part of my decoration/display.  Have you seen these kinds of book and if so what subject do you have?  If you also have a collection and would like to add more, just let me know if you are looking for a particular one and I will try to find it.

What Wednesday - Library chore

In case you are wondering what I do when I volunteer with my MIL at the library, here's some of our duties and stories.  We go once a week for a couple of hours which is not really a lot of time from your day.  We can still do lunch, maybe get some groceries or do a bit of window shopping.  It's going to be almost a year since we started and next month we are having another book sale which was what got as started.  Just to explain that we volunteer for the Friends of the Library, although part of the library, we report to two wonderful ladies who are also volunteers.  Upon arrival at the library we get our ID tags and immediately start working on sorting the books that have been donated by people, stores, or organizations.  There is really nor right or wrong in the sorting but they ask they you at least place it in the shelves that you think is the closest to the type of books.  Then there's a small corner in the library called the Nook where we keep re stocking with newer arrivals.  People who look through these end up buying books that they like for a very minimal fee.  Sometimes I have to clean up and organize both our room and the nook.  I love arranging the books by colors within each category as well as arranging the book displays.  My MIL is such great partner at the library because she just goes along with what I want to do or fix.  We get the job done is a short time and feel such pride in keeping the room tidy and organized.  Next month we will have another Book Sale and of course we will be working the day prior to the sale.  The day we volunteer at the library is also my day with my MIL and we have a fun day.

Maybe Monday - Mini Books

While volunteering at our Library, I found some cute mini books that I thought be a nice collection for our stair shelf.  They are good condition used books and for a great price.  I thought it might be useful for our guests and they can keep it as a souvenir.  This past weekend we took Gamble (grandson) to the Library so he can pick some books for reading as he will be in grade one this September.  He found a few that he likes and when he found out that I do work there, he said "I did not know that you work at the library, that is so cool".  We also pick up some other books for his sister GreenLee who is turning one this month.
Books on display on the first level of the stair shelf.
For coffee lovers
For wine lovers
For little critter lovers
For those needing money management
For those renewing faith
For such little books, it is filled with quick information and very easy reading.  Which would you pick if you need a little break from your busy life?

Truthful Thursday - Books etc.

After attending our first meeting at the Library as part of my new volunteer place,  I am so excited about what I can contribute to our group.  We completed our forms and had a short orientation of what the procedures are and what we can do when we come in to give our time.
Here are some of what I can do:

Organize the room in order to make use of every space
Design the next book marker for our book sale
Design the flyer for the next sale
Design a small poster for cars to advertise our book sale
Design the big generic poster for our book sale
Find an organization that would take books

As you can see I will start being very busy doing all of the above.  There are a few volunteers but they are still looking for more as there's a lot to do.  There are no strict rules about the number of hours you can give as long as we do it during library regular hours.  My MIL will be doing it once a week for at least 3 hours.  The two ladies who are the lead for the group are so great and very appreciative of the volunteers.

Timely Tuesday - Taking time to read

The library BOOK SALE this past weekend was a success.  It was nice to receive an appreciation email from the Friends of the Library only a couple of hours after we got home.  During the sale we were allowed to check out if we liked any of the books and if we did, we can fill out a bag with as much books as we can and the cost is $5.  It seems like it was such a great deal that I ended up with a bag filled with books that I hope to read during my down time (waiting for paint to dry).  Some of the books will be for my daughter that I will keep until her timely visit this year.  The other books will be for my guests who stay at the CPBB, just in case they forgot to bring a book or would like to take it with them.  I also found some children's book that I will give to Jeff's grandchildren.  You will find some of the books either interesting or maybe weird but I thought I would share the titles for your comments.

Simply Saturday - Simple work means a lot

Today is the book sale at the library near our home.  Yesterday I met the Friends of the Library who are the volunteers who organizes book sale and other events at the library. The ladies were all very friendly and very nice.  The lead ladies were very appreciative of the hours we spent sorting the books for today's sale.  My MIL have decided to join me in volunteering with this particular library.  Next week we will try to get our orientation and completing forms in order to get officially part of the Friends of the Library.  The book sorting process was very interesting as we check each box and place them in their appropriate category.  All the volunteers were all working hard and helping each other to get the job done.  I am very happy that I picked another venue to give my time back to the community.

Last night I assisted Jeff with some of the simple work that is part of the renovations.  There were parts of the wall that needed scrapping which is a prepping process prior to painting.  I started with the small wall the divides the living room and the kitchen.  Once I finished scrapping, I painted this walls brown.  This is a small job but this was my training portion.  I must have passed that part, so Jeff said that I can proceed to scrape the rest of the walls of the living room and the kitchen.  All of a sudden my knees started to hurt so I had to take a break, a good time to blog.  My boss is calling and it's time to paint the primer on the cabinet part of the stair.  Simple work that means a lot specially when it's part of our home.
