Sportsmanship Saturday - Same or different

Last Sunday the Football season started and it was very exciting for me because my favorite
team the NE Patriots won 43-0 against the Dolphins.  That's when I realized that we had to do our very own Football Picks for the 2019-2020 season. First we choose from the AFC then we pick from the NFC.  This weekend we will have to do the NHL and pick our teams.  We really don't keep score of each and every game but we check it again when it is the playoffs.  These are the only two that we follow during the winter season.  My hubby does not really watch basketball and I normally will watch when it's their playoffs.  If you remember one of my posts about being not a good sports when it comes to losing to my hubby, well it already began as we had a few games of pool last week.  What I couldn't understand is that I can make great shots and do a few at a time but for whatever reason, I could not finish it.  Anyway, he won 5 games out of 6.  So here's a comparison of some of the sports that we both play and how we compare our skills with each other for each sport.

Sporty Saturday - NHL collections

When Jeff's cousin was visiting about a month ago, she had asked me to sew some collection for her favorite NFL team, The Denver Broncos.  If you recall, I featured some of those items on one of my post.  A few months ago when my BFF was visiting he had requested something similar for his favorite NHL team, the Montreal Canadiens aka the Habs.  Last week one of our neighbor ordered also some items for his favorite NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks.  Last Thursday, I surprised my friend from Malaysia who was visiting the Okanagan with his own collection for his team.  When my CIL got home and shared all the Denver Broncos collection with her fiancee,  he said that I should send a photo of the items to the Broncos team and maybe I can work for them, making these collections.  It would be a great idea but that means, I would have to work.  I think he just forgot that I am retired.  I love sewing these items and using them as gifts for friends or for friends who order them and pay for them.  Sort of making a little cash without leaving home.  So if you are reading this and you are a true and loyal fan of an NHL or NFL or maybe even CFL, then you can send me a quick message and we can work something out.

A pouch for your electronics (cords, charger, battery, etc)

A manly apron for a true Sharks fan.

For the couple that lives and breath Broncos.

For a loyal fan since he was a little boy.

For the wife who still cheers for the Sharks even when they can't get to the Stanley Cup.

For my long time friend who took time from his very busy vacation to stop by and visit us.

Stitching Sunday - A true Broncos Fan

For those who are my loyal followers and readers, my apologies for not keeping up with my posts. I know you will understand when I tell you my reason behind the delay of my posts.  If you read the last post, my MIL and CIL were visiting and therefore I was busy trying to make breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I also have been sewing a few items for Jeff's cousin who is a truly Denver Broncos Fan.  When she planned the trip to visit us, she told me that she would be bringing a fabric that she would like make her something exciting with it.  Well, she did not forget the fabric and almost at the end of their visit, I started sewing all the items for her as well as for my MIL.  Now let me show you what I completed.  In addition, I thought of sharing a few items that I just completed for one of our previous neighbor.  And for those of you who lives in British Columbia, I know you will love the items I've done.  Unfortunately, it is only available at my Cranberry Portage Handicrafts.

Ipad case, cosmetic bag, coin purse, cellphone charger holder, key chains.

Travel undies pouch for her daughter

My MIL loved this pattern so I made her a couple of items.

One of our previous neighbor ordered this who is a loyal Canuck's fan.

Fan Friday - Raptors VS Warriors

Last weekend I ask my daughter who she will be cheering for this 2019 NBA Finals.  And her reply was "I don't care who wins, but I will have to cheer for the Raptors."  When we lived in San Jose (the bay area) my daughter and her hubby visited us and they had a chance to watch the Warriors game at the Oracle Arena.  Apparently they had great seats and it was a great game.  Now that we are back in Canada, I am guessing we will be cheering for the Raptors as well as it's the only Canadian team in the NBA.  Luckily, we were able to watch game 6 between Raptors and Bucks during the last few minutes.  As we were not following basketball a lot but after the Sharks lost, we thought we would check it out.  I was happy to be able to watch that exciting and amazing win by the Raptors.  Jeff does not watch a lot of the sports except NHL (Sharks) and NFL (49ers).  While I watch most the sports (NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, Tennis, Golf, Bowling, and even NASCAR).  Anyway, we will definitely be recording all the games and cheer for both teams.  But it will be such a treat for all Canadians to have the Raptors win the NBA Finals since Warriors already has a few trophies.  May the best team wins.  Drake will definitely be there as he is the #1 super fan.

Sportsmanlike Sunday - only versus Jeff

Why is it that I cannot get over losing a game of any type of sport that Jeff and I plays?  Is it because I am a bad loser? A poor sport?? or just a petty individual???  Actually that is not true.  Why, I don't mind losing to any other person either competitively or just for fun, which means I am a good sport, except when it comes to Jeff.  The first few times we played pool, I would use the Maynards Fuzzy Peach candy to count how many game each of us won.  By the end of the evening, I would stomp back upstairs if I lost but if I won, I would be all giddy and would have the best sleep that night.  Sometimes I would challenge him again after a couple of days in order to see if I can beat him.  After many months of this and I was not enjoying the game because I was losing a lot, I had to really suck it up, and learn the true meaning of sportsmanship.  I have stopped using the Fuzzy Peach as counters or score pieces and instead use it to bribe Jeff.  Every body knows he has a sweet tooth and cannot resist, but he still would not throw that game, just to make me win.  And this makes me work harder to make sure that I concentrate on my shot.  It makes winning a much more rewarding because I did it on my own.  Although there are some nights that I would get ahead and win more games than him but because he is a good sport and as he says "it's all for fun", it makes me feel good about learning to be a good sport. Now I can apply what I have learned from him about sportsmanship. When we play  tennis, squash, dart, bowling, etc. I can enjoy every part of the game.  Yeah, I am cured.

Selection Saturday - NHL and NFL

This is how you know that winter is here to stay.  You start making up lists of your sports teams.  It's like our own hockey and football pool.  Only difference is that it's just for me and Jeff.  That's right we have finally decided to pick our teams to make it more exciting when we are watching these games.  There is no prize, no initial fees or weekly pot.  Just a simple game of your team vs my team.
We picked our teams for the regular season and then look them over once the playoffs begins.  OK you must think, we have way too much time in our hands.  Maybe a little, we are both retired.  But truly I do this stuff while watching the game so I actually don't waste my other time doing my hobbies.  You must be wondering which teams we have and did I make the right choice.  Who knows, it was all pure luck, except for some teams who are my favorites already. Good luck to both. LOL
