Sleek Sunday - It was meant to be

Before I start my post for today, I wanted to share a funny story.  I was out with my MIL last week checking out the deals at Kohl's since she has a 30 percent off coupon.  The goal was o buy what we only need or if there were items that was truly a great deal.  We bought some items in the baby department for a friend who recent had a baby boy.  While checking the ladies section I found a couple of simple cut skirt that I thought my daughter would be able to use for work.  Since the price was so cheap, I decided to get her both black and grey one.  When I sent the photo to my daughter, she wrote back " Haha, you already bought me that skirt! By the time I got that message, I was already home and was not interested in returning the skirt for the cheap price.  What else can I do?  I decided to try the skirt and to my surprise it fits me like a glove.  I guess it would have been big for my daughter anyway.  It was meant to be for me.  Today's post is all about meant to be.  Before the citizenship ceremony I needed some sandals to wear and I found it at Broadway Shoes, it was the last pair in my size and a great price.  It was meant for me.  The last one is another footwear that I found at Ross.  I was not really looking for anything but I stumble upon a sleek slip on shoe in a golden color and my size and the only pair. But because the price was really good ($5.69) also, I made an executive decision to buy it. On all three scenarios, It was meant to be.  When you are retired, you have to stretch your money for as long as you can.

The brand is Bandolino and the price is $5.69 plus tax - still under $10

My new $6.80 skirt that's perfect for work.

An evening wear sandals or for special event or just when I need to bling the outfit.

Flipflops Friday - It's time for new ones

Spring is here and everything seems to be blooming. Around the neighborhood, several variety of roses are coming out and other types of flowers are showing their colors.   But what is more exciting is that I stumble upon a very colorful but simple and comfortable flip flops.  Of course I had to get some because I need to replace some of the old ones.  Maybe because the price is right, that's it, I can afford to get at least four pairs.  After searching on Pinterest, I decided to create my own flip flops embellishments.  I have so many left over remnants that I hate to discard because of their size that is why I have been saving them.  Now I can use them for making some smaller items like decorating my flipflops or making headband for little girls or whatever small crafty items I can find.  What do you think?
Would you be interested in owning one of these fancy flip flops?

Slip resistant Saturday - Our own bowling shoes

When I told my daughter my bowling score, she was thinking of Wii Bowling.  She didn't realize that I actually go bowling at the real place.  The funny part is that I can have seven strikes in a row in Wii bowling but cannot get one strike in real bowling.  But last week I was very proud to say that I got my score to 100 which is good enough for me since we have only started going last month.  Our friends suggested that maybe we should consider getting our own shoes instead of renting because the cost is very inexpensive.  Of course Jeff did not wait and started checking.  Last night they arrived and we both tried it.  Very comfy and it surely is slip resistant.  I started searching for the perfect bag to carry our shoes and sure enough I found it one in our guest room closet.  This bag was given to me by my favorite SIL many years ago.  At first I use it as my gym bag, then tennis bag, sometimes a weekend bag and now it is the perfect bag for our bowling shoes.

My goal is that each week I can improve my score and when I get better and have great results, maybe I can get my own ball that fits my fingers.  Last week when we played, my friend took out one of those wet wipes and we were cleaning the holes of the balls we were using.  Maybe that's another good reason to have our own personal ball.

I love the colors and the design, it's like I got the whole world in my hand.

Frugal Friday - When is it a deal

When it comes to looking for great deals, I have certain stores that I like to check every now and again.  Sometimes I get very lucky in finding things that I need for myself or for someone else.  There are some stores that have that special discount on a particular day and I will make sure that I only buy something I need on that day.  Since I have all the time to browse and search for good deals,  I am able to find them without being stressed because I like to shop during the not so busy time of the day.  Yesterday was my lucky day when I decided to stop by at Kohl's.  I was not looking for anything - I was just doing my regular walking around the store - my form of exercise.  Do you want to see what I found?

The last pair - my size - only $4.99
This will be my new evening sandals when the weather gets warmer.  Great deal, right.

Murky Monday - Flip Flops cleaning

It only took one look at the sole of my feet after wearing my flip flop that I decided it was time to clean and scrub all of my washable flip flops.  I figured I would fill up the tub with soap water and Mr. Clean liquid and soak all of them for at least overnight.  They were all floating at the top and I had to keep flipping them over so the bottom would get soaked.  The next day I took a brush and started scrubbing the bottom until all the dirt and whatever spot it accumulated.  I rinsed them again in hot water and line them up in our backyard.  Today's post is not exciting at all but I thought it might give you an idea to do the same with your flip flops.  Am I the only one that owns a number of flip flops ( 25 total)? Since moving to SJC, I can say that I wear them at least 300 times in a year.  Check out my tub of flip flops.

Wedge Wednesday - Espadrilles for summer

When I opened my flip board last weekend, I noticed some really neat sandals/wedges aka Espadrilles.  I meant to send the article to my daughter but I forgot and now I will have to just share what I've seen lately at some of my favorite stores.  Do you have a favorite wedge sandals or do you call them espadrilles?  I found these online but I need to try them out so I might check it out at Macy's.  Sometimes even if it's high as long as my arch fits and the rest are comfy, then it might not be so bad.  This way it will give me some height.  Do you like any of these sandals for this summer?

Timely Tuesday - Gold Star Clearance

While my daughter was visiting a couple of weeks ago, we did a bit of shopping at Kohl's using the discount cards/coupons that I received in the mail.  On one of her purchases, it happens to be the Kohl's cash back.  Since she was not going to be able to use it, she left me the paper coupon and I marked it on my calendar as a reminder to use it.  Yesterday after lunch, I thought of stopping by to see what I an get for the $10 coupon.  Since my hubby was with me, I told him I will be very quick as I know what I am looking for.  It was so timely and it must have been my lucky day because I found a really nice Jennifer Lopez sandals.  The regular price was $59.99 and I got it for $8.99 which was perfect including tax for my coupon.  You can be the judge if you think that I am very good at searching for bargains.

A very comfy sandals with soft elastic and of course a bit of glitter for Vegas.

Tooties Tuesday - Flops and Dawgs

Summertime is when you expose your feet a lot when wearing flip flops or sandals.  The great part of living in San Jose is that I could almost wear my FF year round.  If you remember my blog about my flip flops, well on Saturday while out with my girlfriend Nikki, I could not help it and added two more FF to my collection.  The price was so good (2 for $5).

After my first day of volunteer at the golf course, I decided to try the Dawgs Spirit Golf Shoes.  The only colors they have are white and peacock (not my size) and white and pink.  It was so comfy, light, and cool.  The price was a great deal also, much cheaper than the ones I saw online (Golfsmith and Amazon).  Now when I wear it, it will also match my golf bag.

Footjoy Friday - A real comfy shoe

My feet is joyful not because of Foot joy golf shoes but a new pair of really comfy flat shoes that I bought at Ross last Tuesday.  I was window shopping after my golf game when I saw this pair that look comfy.  It was my size and the last pair but it was beige boring color.  I felt it and then put in one foot and then the other and OMG, my feet started feeling very joyful.  I did not do the "should I or shouldn't I" because my daughter taught me the "YSYLT" (you snooze you lose theory).  So I bought it along with a new dress ( for my birthday and our upcoming cruise).  Then I saw this pink wallet that I also thought with be perfect for our cruise.  The good part about buying on Tuesday is that I get my senior discount.  When Jeff saw the pair of shoes, he said that although it looks comfy it's not usually the style I would pick (so true).  He loves the dress and as for the pink wallet - he thinks it's perfect for my pink purse.
Dirty Laundry Shoe - oh so comfy

You will have to wait for the photo of my new dress as I won't wear it until my birthday.

Flip Flop Friday - How many do you have?

While my daughter was visiting I ended up buying two more flip flops because of two reasons: I don't have these colors and they were two for $5.00 - summer is almost here.  Yesterday I decided to take a review of my flip flops and to see which one I need to say goodbye.  My daughter even suggested one of them really has to go but since I don't have a replacement (navy blue), it will have to stay just one more summer. I am currently using a pink one as my house slippers.  What about your collection?  How many do you have?  The cool part about living in sunny San Jose is that I could wear them all year round.

Background on my flip flips: Starting from back: Pink and black - a hand me down from one of my daughter's girl friend,  Black and gold - from a store called Giant Tiger in Ottawa,  Purple and yellow - from Forever 21 when my daughter was visiting.  Red and white - from my daughter after her wedding.  Clear plastic with rhinestone - bought it for my first all inclusive in Costa Rica.  Nike navy blue - from my SIL.  Black with rhinestone - from a store that went out of business.  Turquoise - wore it at my daughter's wedding as it matches with my sun dress. White with bling - bought it from a market in Puerto Vallarta during our Carnival Cruise.   Beige with beads - extra flip flops during our 7 days in Punta Cana (my daughter's destination wedding). Brown with black ribbon - bought it for our Vegas trip last August 2010.  Orange - for my Vegas trip last January 2012 it was only $2.99Brown - had to buy one at Target because my feet was hurting from wearing a high wedge sandals.
