Sewing Sunday - Sewing and Songs

Weekends are usually a day to relax and just chill.  I guess that is for people who worked hard from Monday to Friday.  As for me, I like keeping busy and since Jeff was away for most of the day, I did a lot of things that I love to do and that includes, house chores, cooking, sewing, nail art and let's not forget watching a little bit of tennis and golf.  Oh oh, I almost forgot about my Nap.
These are the handkerchief that my MIL embroidered and I did finish the edges.
This one is just a practice sample for my niece.
My sister gave me a very pretty table runner which really goes with our color theme.
I manage to do my pedicure during my break and this week's nail art for my toes.
I sewed my sister a Pajama dress for when she visits in December.  She likes animal patterns.
Of course I made one for my self which is black with blue hearts.
Last but not least, I still manage to make our dinner. Wild rice, BBQ pork marinated in raspberry chipotle sauce and a mixed vegetable stirfry.
While doing all of the above, I listened to some easy rock music from our internet radio.  The station is 96.3 Easy Rock from Manila, Philippines.  It's a great station as there's not a lot of commercial nor talking, just classic easy listening music.  I heard this one song that kinda reminds me of my university days.

Simply Saturday - Simply Sweet

A simple, down to earth and sweet lady.  Her name is Annette and she is my mother in law.  Yesterday we went to lunch at the Senior Centre as they were having Korean BBQ lunch.  Before going for lunch we stop by the fabric store to get some handkerchief fabric.  Annette was going to embroider handkerchief for my daughter (Alysia) and her cousin (Marilen).  Here's a sample of what she has done.

This is just a practice sample, Annette will be doing the final ones in the right color and proper fonts according to their order.  Isn't she sweet for doing all of these.  When she found out I wanted something to decorate the cupcake.  She immediately got me this.

While she was out buying the above item, she found this free cord braiding instructions for making bracelets and she thought of Alysia.

We spent most of yesterday being productive.  I was sewing some place mats for Annette.  It's her gift for a friend who lives in Texas who loves pigs.  So I made the set for her.
Set of 4 place mats, one pot holder and 4 cutlery holder

When I went to visit Canada in June, my MIL baked some treats specially for Alysia.  She likes baking goodies and we always get our supply of her best chocolate chip cookies, zucchini bread or whatever recipe she is trying.  She is so much fun to be with and does not hesitate to help out with whatever you might need.  She is very thoughtful, caring, and has the greatest sense of humor.  I am so lucky to have her as my MIL.  Do you get along with your MIL?

FITB Friday - one week late

Last Friday, I wanted to follow the Fill in the Blank that my daughter follows on Friday.  I am a week late, but I liked it and would like to do it today.

1. One of my happiest moments ever was my second wedding in Las Vegas. We were planning a simple one with a few friends and family but by the actual wedding date, we had almost 60 guests (30 from Canada and 30 from USA).

2. Summer is wedding season and weddings are exciting and fun as long as people do not spend too much for that one day event.  I have heard so many friends who spent an obscene amount only to be divorced after one year.

3. This summer has so far been filled with a lot of mini vacations, lots of tennis and golf, and free concerts at the park (Wednesdays at Sunnyvale, Thursdays at San Jose and Sundays at Los Gatos.

4. My summer food of choice has been BBQ carne asada with my home made mango salsa on a corn torilla. In addition fresh shucked oysters with 3 colored beets salad as a side.

5. My summer uniform has been skorts and sleeveless T' and  flip flops.

6. If I could spend the entire summer in one location I would choose Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.  This way I get to spend time with my daughter, her husband and her in laws. Then I will spend weekday with  my friends for golf and tennis. I would be able to eat Jamaican food at least once a week, go for Dim Sum with the Wong family, spend Sunday BBQ at the Solons in Brampton.

7. My summer anthem is Just the way you are by Bruno Mars. Every time we are driving the radio station we pick is playing this song.  It is so catchy and the refrain is so easy to sing along to.
