Fatigue Friday - A day of rest after a vacation?

Does anyone take a day of rest after coming back from a vacation?  Today is our first day back from our 7 day vacation in Maui and I am extremely tired.  Maybe it's that three hour time difference or maybe it's the waking up early each and every day.  I missed doing my post for the past couple of days but I am back now and I hope I did not disappoint my few followers.  Hopefully for the next couple of days I will share my Hawaii vacation and even show some photos.  For now I need to take another nap.  Have a good weekend to all.  Aloha!

Tempting Tuesday - To have a party or not

Only a month and a half and I will be celebrating a big birthday.  There's still part of me that wants to have a party only because of tradition.  I always have a big party every 10 years.
Although Jeff already has given me this year's birthday gift - a trip to Hawaii, then it really does not make sense to spend more.  In reality it is just another day in May and it's not a big deal if I don't have a party this year.  My friend from SJPD suggested to just have a luncheon with the rest of the group at work.  Since my sister will be with us for ten days, I could just spend each and every day having fun with her which is like partying, right. The more I write about it, the more silly I feel about being undecisive about it.  Which only means that it's not meant to happen.
This sort of reminds me of my 30th birthday party.  I did pass out on the leather couch of the penthouse.

Mondrian Monday - I'm Jealous

What is the most important thing do you care about when going on a vacation?
  • Destination
  • Accomodation
  • Class of airfare
  • Tours
  • Company
  • Food
  • Weather
Having traveled on a variety of class of airfares, I have to admit being on business class or FIRST class is definitely the way to go specially on very long flights.  Sometimes with this also comes an excellent suite at a five star hotel.  After talking to my daughter about her weekend get away, I am a bit jealous because they are staying at a very nice hotel in NYC.  I know that both of them loves their vacation and they do spend time researching everything prior to booking.

I can count how many times I have stayed at some really nice hotels in Asia (The Caravelle Hotel and the New World in Vietnam; The Manila Peninsula in the Philippines). The ones in Europe are normally very small and very expensive.  As for the Caribbean, it's a hit and miss but food is always tasty while in Africa it's just different but also good restaurants within the hotel If I remember correctly, we stayed at a Coral Hilton in Puerto Plata, DR (all inclusive but we only stayed for three days as it was business trip.

Sadness Sunday - She's moving on

Somehow I knew that it was going to end soon.  My daughter has ended her blog which she started six years ago. It is sad because it was one of the ways I sort of connect with what's happening in her life.  Although we use other social media and of course the good old long distance calls, I sure will miss reading all her posts.  She was the main reason why I started blogging.  Her suggestion was that it will give friends and family a chance to follow me and see how I am doing.  It's timely that she is ending her blog as she takes a new position in a bigger company.  I wish her all the best and I hope that when things start slowing down, maybe she will start another blog someday.

Selective Saturday - Nail salon

How many nail salons do you have in the area where you live?  This is the one business that is not lacking in our area.  When I was searching for one salon I could go to when I need to get a full service (mani-pedi), it was amazing to see that there's one and maybe even two in each of the shopping plaza or strip mini mall.  Although I can do my own nail art and usually do my own, I treat myself to the full service when I am going on vacation or when there is a special event.  Last Tuesday I decided to check out a few of them.  I would take a peek to see if they are busy and then maybe go in a little bit to see how clean the place is.  The first one I checked was close on Tuesday.  The next one was open with a couple of customers but the place was a bit cluttered and dusty in several places.  The person asked my to pick the color but did not tell me how long I have to wait or just have a seat.  After a few minutes of observing, I left because I saw more negative stuff.  I drove across the street to another plaza and there I found Queen Nails.  It was not too busy so I decided to try them out.  The price for the service was a good deal and the place was clean.  The lady who did my nails was very gentle but gave a great hand and feet massage.  Check out my nails.

Once they start to chip and my nails have grown, then I do my own nail art which are very similar design to these.  I don't feel too bad getting them done every now and then because I know I save a lot by doing my own during the in between months.  Do you have a favorite salon you go too?

Fruitty Friday - New fruits to taste

There are so many different fruits that will be available to taste when we get to Hawaii.  I am already wondering what type of fruits they have that we don't get here in San Jose.  Of course I have to remember that there are some fruits that are very high in sugar so I will keep in mind to have a smaller portions.  Since I don't think I am allergic to any kind of fruits, it will be safe to try something new.  I started researching online and these are so far my favorites.
Jaboticaba (not sure what this taste like but I would like to try)
The Lanzones Fruit
Lanzones (this was one of my favorite when I was growing up)
Atemoya
Atemoya (my sister's favorite)-she found this in England while travelling and paid almost $10 for one.

Theology Thursday - The Bible

During Easter weekend, we did not see anything interesting to watch and there were no shows recorded.  It was Saturday night and while flipping through the many channels, Jeff decided to check out the history channel.  The featured show was The Bible.  As it was still part of the holy week, we thought it was fitting that we re learn what really happened then.
The rest of the episodes were recorded as it involved several shows.  While we were watching Jeff and I would quiz each other who's who, try to recall the words being said, and what is about to happen.  During commercials we would discuss some of the things that happenedThere are some parts of the show that was a bit too painful and too violent for me.  Do you remember seeing the movie Jesus Christ Superstar?  I think I prefer that version because it was musical.  There has been a lot of movies made about the life of Jesus and I believe the last one I remember was the Passion of Christ directed by Mel Gibson.  It was reviewed by the critics as having extreme violence.  Can you imagine if the people who commits crime now a days are dealt with the same way Jesus died?  Would there be less crime committed?
