Sadness Saturday - Sorry NEP Fans

How can a team who won most of their games in the regular season gets knock out during the wild card game.  That's NFL, right.  I was so sad for my team and decided not to have a Superbowl party because the New England Patriots is not in it.  My daughter suggested to have a party anyway and just eat and drink.  It's an idea but who will I cheer for.  I guess it really depends on which teams will be still alive.  My hubby is cheering for the 49ers so he might want to have a party.  My own tradition is that we only have a party if the Patriots are in.  But maybe we should just have a party as an excuse to get together and have a little contest of picking numbers and winning the football pool.  It just gives a little excitement to the party while watching the game.  Anyway, there's a few more games before Superbowl LIV, so I will just wait after the NFC and AFC championship before we decide.  I'm still sad.

Towels Tuesday - Only 54 days before Superbowl

While watching TV today, I notice that there's only 54 days before Superbowl LIV.  That's when I realized that I have not made my special NE Patriots kitchen towel.  I thought it would be nice to have them when I host the superbowl party in February.  But there's a rule.  I only have a party if my all time favorite team "Patriots" will be in it.  There's a few more games to complete before the playoff but they are 10-3.  It will be nice to have the rest of their games a WIN.  Anyway, I am all prepared for that party, just in case. It snowed the last couple of days so I decided to stay in my sewing room and do something productive. I made some additional towels for gift giving which included the one for my daughter that I forgot to take a photo. So here's the towel collection for this week.

Superbowl Sunday - Patriots all the way

After a few days of debating whether to have a party or not, I decided to have one anyway because we have to watch the game and it's more fun to watch with a few more people.  Some of our neighbors will be attending and of course I will be serving some appetizers during the game.  Since I don't have my menu planned ahead, I will just be winging it.  No, I won't be serving wings.  Instead I will serve a mixture of finger foods and maybe something hot to keep bodies warm.  Maybe some hearty chili, spicy meatballs, pigs in a blanket (since it is the year of the pig) samosas (a couple of neighbor loves them) and still debating whether or not to make fresh lumpia (vegetable roll) or fresh salad roll (vietnamese style).  As for drinks, in our neighborhood, every event is BYOB.  Almost forgot to mention that I will also be making football brownies and maybe a special bread pudding with rhum sauce.  Someone gave me a Panettone (an Italian sweet bread) from Christmas and now I need to use it.  There are still squares and cookies in the freezer that I can take out if needed.  Now that I have covered the menu, I just have to prepare myself for the game and cheer for my team.  I don't want to read any of their predictions and or comparison between the two teams.  Whatever happens, I will accept it graciously and not cry.  Haha.  But from previous years that I had a Superbowl party (one in San Jose and one here), both times Patriots lose. OMG, maybe I should have not hosted a Superbowl Party.  Aaaahhhhh!!

Tension Thursday - What tension?

There are so much tension all over the world that is why sometimes you have to just turn off the TV and not watch anything.  But if you are travelling in the near future, you actually have to know what is happening, right?  Today's post was going to be about a different tension.  I decided to practice playing the guitar again and of course the tension had to be readjusted because it's still considered a very new set of strings.  Tuning constantly to get the right tension and hopefully soon, I don't have to keep doing it.  Another type of tension is the one I experience every time I am sewing.  I cannot believe that my machine just turned 9 years old.  It still runs really good but every now and again the tension gets out of whack.  The last time it was because of my bobbin that was scratch (made of plastic), for whatever reason it was not catching and therefore no bottom thread.  For those of you who are not into sewing, forget about those last few sentences.  During the Australian Tennis Open, there were so much tension when it comes to the players, the umpire, and sometimes between reporters and players.  I get a lot of tension when I am watching and I cannot stand the comments of some of the broadcasters, time to turn the TV off. Almost forgot the tension between families and friends.  Sometimes you have no control on this type of tension and all you can do is wait and hope it goes away.  For me the best way to relieve tension when I start feeling it, I get busy.  Yesterday I wrote a total of 6 letters, that's right good old snail mail.  By the end I felt so good about the whole process.  Today, I started sewing again and try making new items out of my scrap fabric in between loads of laundry.  The weekend is almost here and the month of January is almost over.  Does it mean we only have a month and half of winter?

I named this bear NANOOK.

My new scraps/thread catch all.

Finger pot holders (small and medium hand)

My new carry on luggage and the tag I made with my favorite fabric.

Superbowl Sunday - Go PATRIOTS Go

Just a little upset because I prepared a truly nice post today and I was going to make a simple change and it all got corrupted somehow.  The only way I could work on the post was to delete the initial one and start over again.  So here am I trying to remember all the stuff that I had written down.  All I wanted to cover today is about cheering for the Patriots.  If your team is not in it, then the Patriots are in it to WIN it. We are hosting a small party with some simple dishes and yummy desserts.  Only 12 guest in total which is the number of Tom Brady.  Not superstitious but it makes sense.  So whether you are watching from the comfort of your home or at some bar somewhere or attending a party at your friend's place, cheer for my team, unless of course you are truly an Eagles fan.  Have fun today but be safe.  Let's get the party started.

Sacked Sunday - Not for Brady

If the Patriots win today then it means I will have a Superbowl party in our new home and invite some of the neighbors.  But if Tom gets sacked more than once, I am not sure if I can take it.  What is funny is that I didn't know any of these football terminology except for TOUCHDOWN.  But since I moved to San Jose where football is everywhere and almost everyone you talk too is cheering either the 49ers or Raiders, I began to really pay attention to the game and with Jeff's help and even my bff from Houston.  Susan even came to visit up since the Superbowl last year was in San Jose at the Levi's Stadium.  Every time I watch now I pay attention to some of the rules and some of the challenges and reviews.  What is good about the DVR is that we can record as many games being covered by different stations.  As well as I can rewind to check out what really happened, ask Jeff if it was not clear to me what the flag was about.  But when the Patriots are playing, I get very edgy on our couch.  This Sunday I won't be wearing all my gear but maybe just my favorite t-shirt.  I started checking Pinterest as far as ideas for my maybe Superbowl party.  In fact I already have the Patriots napkins which was the leftover from last year.  I told my good friend Gord from Ontario that I might need his help to make the squares for the game if I did have a party.  The winner will get a chance to pick whatever charity they wish to donate the winnings.  Now here's some of the treats I want to make for our party.  GO PATRIOTS GO.

Superbowl Sunday - True Patriot Love

For those of you who are Canadians, you would be saying, I know where those words came from.  That's right, it's part of the national anthem of Canada.  It was the first thing that came to my mind when I started on today's post.  TRUE - I am definitely a true fan of the team. PATRIOT - that's the team that I have been cheering for since I was asked to join the weekly football pool at the place where I use to work. LOVE - what is not to love about that team.  Just look at their record.  The truth is that even though I am a true fan, I am not a very good one.  Well, at least that's what Jeff says.
When the game is on I love watching it as long as they are winning, if they are losing, I can't watch it. I would wait until the recording is done, check the scores on my phone and when I see that they've won, then I go back and watch the rest of the game.  Stupid, right.  So today, Superbowl LI, I will be brave and watch it live and cheer for Patriots without all my stuff.  Last year each time I watch their game I would wear some of these items, but this year I didn't and they have won almost all of it.  Check out my collection.  I forgot to include my key chain, a pin and my favorite mug.
GO PATRIOTS GO!!!

Superbowl Sunday - I'm cheering for the other team

Superbowl 50 is here in the Bay area and for a whole week there were so many things going on and it is causing a lot of inconvenience for residents of the area.  Even though the Levis Stadium is in Santa Clara, they have a couple of Superbowl activities (tent) and more downtown San Francisco and San Jose.  For us, we just stay away from those areas for this week.  We are having a small group of friends for our Superbowl party.  As you know my team is not playing so the excitement is not as great.  But we still will be watching the game at home with our friends.  I have planned a simple menu instead of the original one that consists of steak and lobster.  This time it'll be some finger foods and a variety of desserts.  Without the Patriots, I would now have to pick a team to cheer for.  Definitely not the Broncos because they are the reason why the Patriots are not in Superbowl 50.  I think the Panthers will win and I hope they win with a lot more points between.  Whoever you are cheering for this Sunday, may the best team wins.
