Thirsty Tuesday - Sometimes I forget

It was a rainy weekend and luckily my plants enjoyed some of the fresh rain water.  Sometimes I do forget to water the plants.  Of course some are more hardy than others.  My hubby has to remind me to water them.  In fact he takes care of our indoor plants which is why they are doing really well.  Since I planted some new ones, I posted a few weeks ago that I will keep you posted on the growth of my new plants.  Last Friday I remembered to take some more pictures are there are some new blooms. 

My BFF master gardener told me the name of this plant and I forgot to write it down.

My hubby cut some of the dead parts and now they look healthy.

When I planted this marigold, I had one flower.

Thriving Thursday - Update on my plants

As promised from my last post about my new plants which I started last week, here's this weeks update.  They are still alive and some even have flowers.  I also noticed the iris that I got from my neighbor last fall, have started showing some buds which means maybe next week it will have some flowers.  Anyway, the other three plants that I can't even remember what they were, they look exactly the same as the day I planted them.  But at least they did not die. I tried to take the same photos from the last time so hopefully, you'll see the difference. Although it is not a big deal if you remember what I post, the fact that you are reading this one is good enough for me.  Thank you for stopping by.

Managing Monday - One more try

As I have told you before in my other post about plants, I do not have a green thumb and I am surprised that the plants I added to our garden last year have survived the winter and some are actually doing well.  I tried to clean up a lot of the pots that were left from last winter and one big one broke into pieces.  I guess there were a lot of water left inside the pot and when it froze, it expanded and it broke.  Anyway, there were a couple of still good pots that I thought I would keep and all the other plastic and non ceramic, I recycled them.  Yesterday, although it was mother's day and I normally don't do anything, we decided to head out to one of the local nursery and get a few flowering plants.  I really don't know which one would look good for my two big red pots. But since they were busy, there was not time to be picky.  I bought 4 different types and my hubby bought two cedar trees to replace the two that did not survive the winter.  So if you are a master gardener, I am sure you can tell me all these plants that I got.  I took photos of all of them and so I can check in a couple of weeks if they are actually growing.

Scenic Sunday - Around the area

During our daily walks I keep forgetting to take some photos of the area, the plants and just different variety of flowers and sometimes even just a sign.  So yesterday I made sure that I will take some and share it on my post today.  Most of the flowers or plants, I don't have their names so you can just figure it out yourself. I am sure some of them are just wild flowers.  But there's one photo that I took at the golf course and hope you will find it interesting.

Manageable Monday - To plant or not to plant

Last year I planted some flowering plants in several pots as well as some on the ground.  My problem is that I am not a true gardener and don't even like watering plants. I have a few indoor plants that are really doing well only because my hubby took charge of watering them.  Although this year there were some pretty flowers blooming but they were planted by the previous owner and each year they just come up in the spring.  Now my dilemma is whether to just buy a couple of those hanging basket with flowering plants or not doing anything.  There are plants on the front yard but not colors except when the roses comes up.  I know that the front yard will look alive when there's colors but I am not convinced that the plants will stay alive the whole summer and fall. A few days ago, I took a couple of photos of the new blooms.  By the way, I have one rhubarb plant located beside the front step that is back to life.  The past couple of years, I have harvested rhubarb and was able to make a small jar of jam. Usually I could get some by early summer and early fall.  Each harvest is about 4 to 6 stalks. Are you getting your garden ready now that you have all the time at home?

Spring Sunday - Does anybody care?

After our daily walk yesterday, I decided to work a little on our front yard which includes sweeping some leaves off the front porch.  When I started walking around the front yard, I noticed a few colorful flowers.  Could this be real?  Are these the sign of spring?  Of course I had to take some photos.  Although they are very small right now, I think in a few days some of the other bulbs will be coming out with some leaves and then flowers.  But with all the things happening in and around us, I wonder if anyone has really noticed that Spring has arrived.  Actually it already did, March 19th and there was nothing said on the news.  I guess no one really cares because we are ask to stay home and practice social distancing.  Sometimes when everything seems to be negative, you have to look for something positive, like the sign of spring.  A new beginning is what I think of.  A new growth that is hopefully something meaningful, like finding a cure for the latest virus.  A new way of living, social distancing to help others survive and flatten the curve.  I know these terminology is being repeated over and over.  For some, it's a good reminder and for others who are still not listening, it's a wake up call.  So what does spring means to me?  A new beginning, new growth and a new way of living.  

Thriving Thursday - Plants sitting

At the beginning of December my golf buddy decided to spend the cold winter months in a place that is sunny and warm.  His wife had a few plants and the person taking care of their home was not interested in caring for them.  So I offered to do it except they had to bring all the plants to our home.  There were only four pots so it was not a big deal.  My only concern is that I am not really good with plants and was afraid to kill them.  Except my hubby is very good at watering our indoor plants so I knew it was safe.  Anyway, I found a good spot for all four plants and I am happy to report that they are thriving.  In a month and a half, my buddy and his wife will return and we are hoping that their plants will remain as they are now.  In fact two of the cactus type of plants were flowering.  One with white flower and the other red.  I made sure I took photos of them while they are in bloom to show how well they are doing.  Check out how the plants are loving it in our surroundings.

Weathering Wednesday - Prepping for winter

That W word is a bit too early to mention and a bit scary too.  Summer is still really great in the Okanagan as the tourism industry is just booming. But after my friend stopped by to check on some of my plant, she suggested that it might be best to transfer some of my plants that are perennials into the ground instead of leaving them in pots during the winter months.  She said that this way it will established their roots really well in the fall and be ready for the coldness of winter.  Last Friday, after golf, we started working on the front yard, first weeding and then transferring all the plants that are in pots into the ground.  Luckily Jeff was able to help me as the digging part was the most difficult part of that project.  This week they are looking better and hopefully continue to establish their roots.  Some of my annuals are starting to get a bit more browns but still able to have a few more flower blooms.  Now I would like to share what our front yard looks with the addition of all the perennials I received from my neighbor and the succulents from the golf course.
