Timely Tuesday - Emergency Preparedness

After all the worries I was having about babysitting, I ended up not doing it yesterday but will still be doing it for the next three days.  While tidying up, I found once of the AARP newsletter that I have not read.  One great article was about having these 50 items that are essential for being prepared for emergency in case of natural disaster - hurricane, earthquakes, fire or flood.  My husband have some already in a box but this checklist was easy to do and I thought of sharing it just in case.

This is one project that you can work on every time you find yourself bored and have nothing to do.  In no time you will have it completed and you will be glad you did.  Hopefully we could complete this task within a month.  Maybe start with the first aid kit the first week and then do the next group the week after.  The last task may take a bit longer to organize as there's a lot of papers to copy and to scan if you plan to do an electronic back up.  If you have something similar and all completed, maybe you can share it with our other bloggers.

Maybe Monday - Grandchildren Duties

Babysitting is not an easy job unless the children are between 4 and 7 yrs of age.  I have not done this job for a very long time.  The only babysitting experience I have is looking after my own children.  For the next four days, I will be stuck at home with Jeff's grandchildren (5 and 1) as their regular sitter (the real Grandma) is away on holidays.  Gamble will be easy to look after as he likes playing with all his toys that are at our home.  GreenLee just turned one and is learning how to walk but a little heavy to pick up and carry around the house.  Apparently she has a nap from around 930 to 1130 am.  I have to see it to believe it.  There was only one time that we babysat both kids but it was only for a couple of hours and Jeff was at home.  As you can see I am a little worried already about this four day job.  Honestly I think it's because I am retired and older and don't have a lot of patience with small children.  The other thing that worries me is that some mornings when I wake up, I don't feel as good and it takes most of the morning to actually get going.  I guess I just have to do it and hope that all goes well.  By the end of this week, I will be looking forward to going out and having adult conversations.  But honestly, both kids are really cute and it's so difficult to say no.

Silly Sunday - Nothing exciting

It's one of those days when my mind is not producing a lot of ideas for blogging but I did not want to miss today, so here's a post of nothing exciting, maybe a little boring or just plain silly. 

#1 is my lunch at Panera Bakery last week.  I chose the pick 2 for $6.99 which includes the bowl of Summer Corn Chowder, half turkey and asiago cheese on foccacia bread and potato chips.  The bear claw was a surprise after my card was scanned, I was offered a free pastry (birthday gift).

#2 is my afternoon need to do some baking.  The only recipe that I have all the ingredients is an apple sauce cake with raisins and walnuts.  Jeff came home and complimented on the aroma around the kitchen of a freshly baked cake.

#3 are the flowers that my MIL gave me on the weekend.  Every weekend when she comes to join us for dinner, she has been bringing me flowers which she buys at the farmer's market near her home.  I really appreciate her thoughtfulness and generosity as it sure makes my day or week.  Her son does not bring me flowers, so it's like she is making it up for Jeff.

#4 is the previous and recent nail design on my toes.  I know toes are not the greatest photo subject, but it's the only way I can show the design of my nail art.  Yellow and black was a couple weeks ago and two days ago and current design is the orange and silver colors.

#5 is my new very bright orange pants from Marshall.  This is my second summer color pants.  I actually wore it to my volunteer job last week and got some heads turning (too bright).

That's all for today.  I guess it wasn't as boring as I thought it would be.  Another weekend is over and it's almost the end of July and only 23 more sleeps before my daughter arrives.
 

Sweet Saturday - New Oreo's

When I saw these three new kinds of OREO's, I immediately took photos of them because I am sure my daughter would love to try one or all three.   

The filling is made with colorful sprinkles (like the ones you use for cupcakes)

The filling is made with two colors like the creamsickle (orange and vanilla)

The filling looks bluish not sure what flavor but definitely reminds you of the ocean.

I wonder how long it will take for my daughter to notice this and tell me which one she would like to try.  Since she will be visiting next month, I will probably get some a week before she arrives so she can try it right away.

Frame Friday - Sunglasses

What do you do when you see a pair of sunglasses that you have been looking for and then you found out it is on sale?  The answer:  YOU BUY IT.  Well, this post topic came about when I went to KOHL’s last Tuesday and I found a pair of Sunglasses.  I could not believe the deal that I got.  It was marked with a yellow sticker but there was no price.  I went to the first Price Check stand and could not believe what I saw.  $ 2.68 

When I got home, I decided to collect all the sunglasses that I have.  There were three in my car and two in Jeff’s car.  I took a photo of all six which includes my recent purchase (sporty look, bluish lens).  From top to bottom - newest to oldest.  The third one from the top with the larger roundish frame was given by my daughter. 

How many pairs of sunglasses do you own?  Do you only like a specific style?  Do you lose them or give them away once you buy new ones?

Truthful Thursday - Customer Service

Every now and again, I like completing surveys because sometimes I think it's fun answering the different questions and of course sometimes there is a benefit to completing it.  But last night, I completed a survey because I did not like what happened during my shopping experience at the Bed, Bath and Beyond store.  It was almost closing time and I was the second in line.  The customer before me had a little issue with his credit card and ended up not completing the transaction and had to leave the merchandise.  Once I was at the check out, the female cashier and the male supervisor started talking about the customer that had issues with the credit card.   They made some comments and sort of making fun of the situation.  The male associate was bragging that he has five credit card with NO LIMIT.  Truthfully, I think they were rude because they were talking about it in front of another customer.  They did not even wait until I was finished with the transaction.  The female cashier told me that I could complete the survey and receive 20% OFF COUPON.  As soon as I got home, I logged on and completed the survey.  I don't understand how this people work at retail and have customer service etiquette.

A few years ago while visiting my BFF in Ottawa, something similar to the above story happened at a store called Giant Tiger.  Lorna and I were shopping for some items and while in line at the checkout, Cashier A (an older woman), the other Cashier B (young girl) asked a question from Cashier A.  She responded so rudely and made derogatory remarks that Cashier B was almost in tears.  Lorna told me to leave all our items at the checkout and told Cashier A that we don't want to support a store who are so disrespectful to their employees.  Once outside, I told Lorna, "but I wanted those items" and she replied "you'll get over it".   

Have you walked out of a store because you did not like the service?  Have you voiced out your opinion then walk out?  Do you like completing surveys so you can vent out your disappointments?

Why Wednesday - I wonder WHY

Do you ever wonder why people do things that are either inconsiderate or just plain disgusting?  Yesterday while playing tennis at a nice public tennis court, I noticed some dark brown items at one corner where our ball rolled out.  When I got closer I realized what they were.  Thank goodness the tennis ball did not touch it.  So my question is, why would you take your dog inside the tennis court and let it do it's business and then not pick it up.  If these people don't care and don't pick up after their dog, I am just wondering what their house would be like.  You know what is even more disgusting is going to a home and right in their front door are a couple of dirty diapers.  Now why would someone not just put it in their garbage can or the outside trash can.  Can you just imagine what other people would say when they see this.  Talking about first impression.  Which brings me to women who have nail polish that are all chipped or maybe tiny pieces left.  Why can't they just removed it and their finger nails and toes would look cleaner instead of having what I call nail polish left over.  When it comes to my feet, I am really careful being a Diabetic.  You will never catch me walking with bare feet.  So why would anyone walk around public places without shoes or any type of footwear.  I remember seeing a couple of young girls at some restaurant who took their flip flops off and decided to sort of sit with their feet on the chair and it was disgusting to see the bottom of their feet.  It was so filthy dirty- almost black.  I was just glad that when I saw this, we were done with our meals.
