FMTY Friday - From Me To You

I can't hardly wait to meet the sweet girl from Texas.  A few days ago I received an email from ML of Witchita Falls.  She plans a little get away vacation to visit her friend in San Francisco.  Since she will be in the Bay Area, we will try to meet for lunch or dinner.  She was hoping that my daughter will be able to visit me the same time she will be here but unfortunately it's not a good time for her to take time off from work.  What is interesting is how the connection started.  My daughter and ML both are bloggers and that's how they know each other.  They have not met in person but they have connected somehow.  I guess she found out that I also have a blog and started checking it out and I did exactly the same.  Now I will get a chance to meet her in person.  Last year my daughter and her friends met some of the bloggers from another city.  They met in Vegas and had a great get away and might do something similar some day.  For now we will continue to follow each others blog and maybe exchange some email prior to her trip in May.  I am very honored that ML of Royal Mail would like to meet me in person.  There's only 81 more sleeps before she arrives.  From me to you, safe travel in May, see you real soon.

Truthful Thursday - Happy and Fat

According to Jeff's grandmother from his father's side, when someone asks her how she is doing her response is usually "I am very happy and fat".  I guess sometimes when someone is very content and happy, they tend to forget about how important it is to be healthy and be at the right weight at a certain time of their life.  It would be a nicer response if I could say " I am truly happy, feeling great and kinda slim.  What does kinda slim truly mean?  I can use me as an example to explain this.  Although I know I am at least 20 pounds over weight for the type of body frame and my height, I consider myself kinda slim if I compare it to some women my age with my built.  My legs are probably the part that has the least fat.  Then my arms are second with a little bit of flabby fat under but I do have some definitions caused by the insulin that I inject on each side of my upper arm.  Now the middle part or the core part of my body is where I really need a lot of work.  The truth is I know I need to lose that 20 pounds and I have been trying but not enough.  It's like a yo-yo when it comes to the weight,  one week I will lose 1 or 2 pounds, then will gain it back and an additional 1 or 2 pounds. If only I can motivate myself to walk everyday,  but the truth is I find it boring and I don't do it.  The weather here is much warmer and it should not be an excuse to walk.  The truth is I'd rather play tennis everyday and golf three times a week.  As for dieting, unfortunately I cannot change too much of my meal plan because I am Diabetic.  If I cut down on portions, I tend to have low blood sugar.  I have gone back to measuring most of the food I eat to make sure I am still within the allowance for each meal.  The truth is I am happy and although I feel fat, I am just glad that even with all the health issues I have, I still feel pretty good that I can  play tennis for 2 hours, walk the golf course for 3 hours and do the Just Dance 3 on Wii for an hour.  But then again, I am retired and don't have the stress of working full time for the government.

Wishes Wednesday - Birthday Wishes

If you remember a year ago today, my blog was all about my special friend, kinda like my brother and partner in crime.  Today he will be celebrating another birthday and I cannot have any other topic but to dedicate this post to him.
When I would complain to Percy about getting old, his response would be "You are not getting old, you are OLD".  Brother, please stop getting old because it makes me feel really OLD.

Timely Tuesday - Taking time to read

The library BOOK SALE this past weekend was a success.  It was nice to receive an appreciation email from the Friends of the Library only a couple of hours after we got home.  During the sale we were allowed to check out if we liked any of the books and if we did, we can fill out a bag with as much books as we can and the cost is $5.  It seems like it was such a great deal that I ended up with a bag filled with books that I hope to read during my down time (waiting for paint to dry).  Some of the books will be for my daughter that I will keep until her timely visit this year.  The other books will be for my guests who stay at the CPBB, just in case they forgot to bring a book or would like to take it with them.  I also found some children's book that I will give to Jeff's grandchildren.  You will find some of the books either interesting or maybe weird but I thought I would share the titles for your comments.

Maybe Monday - BBQ now new favorite

What is the easiest way to cook pork or chicken?  Marinade overnight - BBQ the next day.
Although I love eating BBQ meats, I was not really very comfortable in using our gas BBQ in our backyard.  It's usually Jeff that goes out there and I just prepare whatever it is that he needs to cook.  After my first year here, I decided it was time to learn how and do it on my own.  I did a little training and then I was on my own.  Now I don't have to wait for Jeff to come home to BBQ.  Yesterday due to all the work we have been doing at home, it was best to just BBQ some meat and make sure we have lots of leftover for this week.  Check out my BBQ Chicken.

For some this is not a big deal as they have done it for a while, but for me, this is a new favorite. BBQ is easy, healthier, and great left over.  I have made some roasted potato wedges to go along with our BBQ Chicken and of course some petite peas and sweet corn.
